Highly recommend over similar models
I bought this Calphalon model to replace a similar product. Most competitors include a small and a large grid blade, Calphalon includes these too, but also provide a blade that cuts longer slices (which I especially appreciated).The blades are nice and sharp, interchange easily, and the entire unit cleans up very quickly. My other, similar unit, is a German-sounding brand and I think both have equally sharp blades. I dislike that other competitors integrate mandolins and grater into their units. This Calphalon is a veggie chopper only — and it excels at that (rather than trying to be some weird multifunction combination). That was one on the main selling points for me.If you love to make soups or stews, this will be great addition to your kitchen. I use it to chop potatoes, onions, celery, and even harder veggies like carrots and parsnips. It really makes preparing your veggies a breeze. The unit is well constructed and should last a long time, with the right care.The container size is just right and is tall enough to prevent cut veggies from accumulating and blocking the blades.I am buying an extra one for my aunt who has arthritis — she sometimes has trouble cutting through harder veggies, so I think this will be a real game changer for her. I’d highly recommend it to home cooks with mobility problems, or to someone looking to save time in the kitchen, or to anyone who appreciates uniformly cut veggies.

Good product. I love that it all fits in the container after cleaning so it can easily store under my counter as one. So sharp that when I initially assessed it , I cut a little bit on my pinky. Be careful! Ha, my fault. Very happy with this product! 5 stars

This is one kitchen gadget that will get a lot of use. I needed to make a quick meal tonight and this chopper was a huge help when I was in this time crunch. How did I go so many years without one? I own several pieces from Calphalon in my kitchen collection. I appreciate the quality and knowing that their pieces should last a lifetime if they are taken care of.Tonight, I made quesadillas in a pinch. They are fast and easy and everyone is pleased. As you know with quesadillas, the time consuming part is that you have to cut up tomatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, black olives, etc. You also need to shred cheese if you don’t already have bags of shredded cheese.I used this chopper to produce a high volume of diced veggies in very little time. I couldn’t believe how much time it saved me. The cuts were somewhat consistent and I had three options to choose from depending on what I needed. I was able to get it all done in about 1/4th the time it normally takes.I was dreading the whole ‘cleaning up’ part since this set is not dishwasher safe and must be hand washed. Since this tool comes apart and they include a little brush – it didn’t take as long as I thought it would. I was able to clean every nook and cranny properly with the brush included with this set. I look forward to getting a ton of use out of it in the future. I don’t understand the stickiness it is asking about. I didn’t notice anything sticky. Unless it is referring to the ease of clean up.I do need to mention that this isn’t a 5-in-1 chopper that cuts 5 different ways as mentioned. It is actually only a 5 piece set – they are counting the base and little brush in the five pieces. The photo had 5 blade plates. That is another set.I was confused about the 5-in-1 once I saw this set in person. I only received 3 blade plates instead of the originally shown 5 plates. One plate shown originally was a cheese grater – that I really wanted and needed tonight. I had to go back and look to see what was wrong and what happened. It looks like they have since split the listings and they are counting the chopper base and brush as part of the “5-in-1”set instead of it being 5 plates. 5-in-1 should be 5 blade plates. If you want to have universally sized veggies, this will do the trick! I have a no-name branded one and it does work well – that one has a lot more pieces including a mandoline and spiralizer. However, the blade area is smaller on that one. This Calphalon branded one not only feels much more sturdy, but the cutting surface (changeable blades) are larger so you can cut more at once.If you want cubed food, this really does require you to slice your food items first (for instance, slice the onions first and then dice with this. I really appreciate how everything is contained within the container below. However, I’m not sure it really is a time-saver since you’re slicing anyway, and then tacking on the hand-washing requirement vs throwing a knife and cutting board in the dishwasher.The 3 blades give the choice of large or small cubes or slices/julienne. I have tried potatoes with the large cubes, onion with the small, and peppers with the julienne. All 3 cut smoothly, although the onion with the smaller cubes was much harder to process.I appreciate that the container has a rubberized bottom to prevent it from sliding around. Considering that you do put a significant amount of force, this is a welcome safety feature.Two things that disappoint me – this has to be hand washed. The blades are ridiculously sharp (a good thing) so having to wash by hand will be a dangerous endeavor for me. My no-name brand is dishwasher safe… so… Second – the description is very misleading. 5-in-1 says to me that this will give 5 types of chopping/slicing options when in actuality it only gives 3. It is more accurately described as “5 pieces”. So the description is very misleading in my mind.At $30, it is a fair value. Comparing to the no-name brand, this does have some strengths such as the larger chopping surface area and sturdier, more solid feel, however for almost the same price, getting all the extra features really makes it hard to justify.
