Worth DOUBLE the money
Excellent scale, even for double the money. The tare feature works like most others, but the three real goodies are:… the FOUR MINUTE before auto-cutoff. Not like the Taylor scale I had that cut off after one minute of nonuse. It was always cutting off on me before I was finished with it…. and NO DEFAULT SCALE It’s the same as when you last turned it off (if you were using grams, the next time you turn it on it’s still in grams, OR ounces at OFF then it’s ounces at ON). Tap the button to change g/oz on the fly…. AND it holds A FULL ELEVEN pounds (5kg). I put a bag of flour on it, set tare, and scoop out until it reads xx-ounces (virtually impossible with a 6# scale).Yeah, I was a chef for many years and more interested in utility over aesthetics in my equipment. I buy flour in 5# or 10# bags now instead of 50# or 100#. I used to have to have several scales — one for portions and and one for weighing things like yeast and salt, and bigger ones for things like flour and meats. Now 11# is sufficient and this is still accurate enough for yeast and salt…. Okay, so it’s plastic instead of yuppie glass and chrome. It’s accurate and well designed — not heavy, temperamental, or hard to clean. It just works…. Oh, and it doesn’t use strange batteries (regular old AA batteries so you don’t go into conniptions when you need replacements)

WHY ESCALI PRIMO: I bought this scale after seeing it recommended in many forums, blogs, and review articles that addressed equipment for use in bread baking. I am not at all disappointed with my purchase.MY USAGE: I use this scale on a daily basis and it performs quite admirably. I primarily use it to weigh things such as sourdough starter, flour, and water. Weighing things like flour, which sometimes clings to the sides of the container, or water, which sometimes sloshes around, are more challenging than weighing something small and solid, such as a nickel.PERFORMANCE: When I first received it, I put it through several tests to satisfy myself as to its accuracy. I am quite confident that this scale gives accurate readings, no matter what is being weighed. The tare function makes it very easy to add several ingredients to a container, weighing each one separately. And, if it is important for you, the scale does show negative readings (for instance, if you remove the item that was just weighed).OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: There is a nice selection of colors from which to choose; I bought red and am quite happy with it. There is a reason I prefer this style/design (with the raised circular weighing platform, with the control buttons on the top of the scale in front of the platform) over the my other scale (which has a sleek flat surface – all of which is the weighing platform). Since the two scales function with equal accuracy, and the other scale is definitely more attractive, you would think I would prefer the other one. Well, even though I love the looks of the other scale, the design has one drawback. Because the on/off control is on the front edge, it is easily bumped. The scale is often being turned on by accident. This is a real annoyance for me. There is never an accidental button push with this Escali Primo scale, and in my mind that is a big plus!BOTTOM LINE: I love this scale. I like the fact that it has a well-deserved reputation for consistent satisfactory performance (good reviews on many different websites). It is a workhorse, that never lets me down. I would recommend this to friends and family, as well as to all of you reading this review. In my opinion, upon finding this scale, your search is over; this is the scale to buy!

Great scale value. The warranty replacement for an initially bad unit that was returned to Escali, has performed flawlessly and with great accuracy for two years so far. [update: to over eight years as of 2019]Note: After re-zeroing first to negate the additional weight, consider a cylindrical coffee can, which nicely fits on the circular platform as a vertical extension, to weigh larger items that would otherwise block view of the LCD.-I believe most manufacturers of “affordable” electronic devices permit a fraction of dead or poor quality units to ship for retail sale. For many commodity electronic items there are hundreds of 5* – but also dozens of 1* reviews. Usually between 10 and 25%. I accept this as a fact of life. And really base my opinion on how the warranty replacement works, in such cases.Based on reviews and review-ratio of scales in the desired price-range, the Primo was selected for low volume letter oz. and parcel < 11lb. weighings. I ordered the least expensive color. Within the first few uses, done over a few weeks, the LCD would flicker, and finally the display stayed at zero, no matter the weight. Resetting by button or battery removal did not work after the first few times.E-mail contact with Escali led to a return "for testing". A new identical model (including color) in a new retail box was sent back to me in a couple of weeks, and has performed flawlessly for two years so far. I periodically compare to a scale in a local post office and check calibration using varying numbers of US nickels (which are 5.0 g each) - and the replacement Escali has been spot on every time.Ideally, a warranty would cover the shipping both ways. But this is extremely rare. The scale is very light and my location was not far away, so even packed and padded well, the cost was less than $6 (and as of 2012 still shouldn't be more than $6-$11 from anywhere in the US).Good warranty replacement experience. Great value.

This is a great kitchen scale. Most of my recipes are in weight and this scale is perfect. Accurate, goes up by small increments, lightweight and looks good. Does what it is supposed to do. Treat it well and it will last forever

Deze weegschaal heb ik aangeschaft omdat de oude veel te traag was bij het meten. Wat zeker bij kleine hoeveelheden, als er nauwkeurig gewerkt moet worden, zeer irritant is.Op aanraden van anderen deze gekozen, en het is een perfecte keuze: zeer snel en nauwkeurig!
