Works with Alexa Dot and Alexa Echo
I plugged the Kasa Smart plug in and downloaded the Kasa app to my phone. Next I connected the Kasa app to the Kasa mini plug. Next I opened the Alexa app and selected add device and selected add the Kasa smart plug to my Alexa. It was very easy. No problem connecting. Works great.

Best smart plug on the market
I can’t say enough good things about these smart plugs. I have 5 of these now, plus a weather-proof outdoor version, and I love them a ton. They’re so easy to setup, the app is very easy to navigate and use.I specifically love the schedule aspect for these. I have some electronic decor around my home and I have these plugs on a schedule to turn things on and off without me needing to touch them. These are the modern version of those old school timer outlets your grandma use to have back in the day.

Reviewing the indoor and outdoor offerings
Summary: Reviewing three similar Kasa (TP-Link) smart plugs. After my initial review of the HS103P2, I found the KP115 with Energy Monitoring, so ordered that one too. Also ordered the outdoor version.Observations (construction): Like most modern manufactured items, this one is a snap together setup. The construction is decent. The relay is a 200V and 16A version, and should be able to pass full power (1875W for a 15A circuit).Recommendation: The newer model plug is KP115, released in Oct 2020; whereas the older model is HS103P2, released in March 2018. The newer plugs are more expensive, but I would pay the extra cost for the energy monitoring feature if needed.Software Setup: After downloading the app (iPhone), setup was straight forward. It appears to only connect to a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network; however, with my phone on the 5GHz network, I was still able to control the device. Generally 2.4GHz has better range, and 5GHz has better bandwidth, so 2.4Ghz is the appropriate band for this device (and most IoT devices). Upon completion of setup, the app offered to update the firmware (which completed in less than 5 minutes). Setup was the same for both (the outdoor didn’t need a firmware update).Software Observations: Biggest disappointment with the Energy Monitor plugs is that the energy usage cannot be reset with the Kasa app. After doing some internet research, found that if you’re on iOS, search for “Watt for Smart Devices” app in the Apple Store, it allows you to reset the energy usage. The Kasa app works okay. I do wish they had a lock out feature, making it a two step process to turn off power, which would be very important on a device like a computer.Pros: simple setup; firmware updates.Cons: energy usage not resetable via the Kasa app. Conclusion: At $22 for the KP115, rating this 4-stars (software deficiency, energy usage reset). I also ordered a two-outlet Outdoor plug (listed below), which I am rating 5-stars, and the older HS103P2 at 3-stars (one DOA).Related Products:Kasa Smart Plug Mini with Energy Monitoring, (KP115), ~ $224.4 out of 5 stars 14,686 ratings | 211 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LN3C7WKKasa Outdoor Smart Plug, ~ $164.6 out of 5 stars 13,373 ratingshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091FXH2FRKasa Outdoor Smart Plug, 2 Sockets, IP64 Weather Resistance, ~ $164.6 out of 5 stars 13,373 ratingshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091FXH2FR

    Versatile plug
I have both model 103 and 125 plugs. The 103 keeps track of run time, the 125 energy usage. There’s a separate app called watts that lets you reset to zero the cumulative total, otherwise I prefer the Kasa app. I used these to automate turning on and off electric blankets. I also have one on my lawn irrigation to shut it off when it’s unwanted, the rain sensor is far from perfect and I don’t want to run out to the shed to get to the control box. I have another on my crawl space dehumidifier. There are times I want to turn it off, say for possible de-icing, and I don’t want to go crawling under the house. These plugs are somewhat sensitive to the electrical outlet used and WiFi reception. They can work perfectly at some spots and not so good at others. I had one that seemed defective until I plugged it in beside one that worked perfectly. The questionable one worked perfectly at the relocated spot. The button on the side makes it easy to cycle it without having your phone with you. I did spend $20 to get a second WiFi router closer to the backyard shed for the irrigation control plug to work reliably. That solved the inconsistent switching issue. These plugs are compact and when located well with respect to your WiFi, are a great convenience. The Kasa app works well, other than lacking a reset for totals used.

Great connection to your wifi. strong antenna 💪
I’ve used every type of smart plug and Kasa has definitely been the most reliable. now that they have metering capabilities I may ditch all my emporia plugs. those are so unreliable, constantly losing connection, randomly going on or off. I use smart plugs for most electronics but most importantly my insane Christmas set up 10 outlets to power our set up. I’ll likely be buying another 6 Kasa to keep them all the same brand. no issues with Kasa , they seem to have a stronger antenna because they can reach the end of my house in the cellar and emporia cannot even come close.

Fantastic little plugs! Work great with Sense Home Energy Monitoring
With so many internet enabled things, it’s sort of a crap shoot on if a plug will be worth the hassle and if it’ll be reliable and void of any vulnerabilities. The Sense Home Monitor is great, but it doesn’t let you customize the devices it finds which is super annoying tbh. That’s where these affordable little plugs come in. I’ve got a few high power spots in my home with a Media PC serving data to devices around the home.Setup was super easy:1.) Created a Kasa account2.) Plugged in smart plug3.) added new device and it found it when I connected to the 2.4ghz wifi network4.) firmware updated and I was able to have the Sense app, identify the plug after I enabled the Tp-Link Kasa discovery option under settings.–Named the plug Media PC and now I know exactly what part of my energy usage comes from the PC!!!I ordered 4 more so I can track other devices more precisely.A+

I was looking for a smart plug that can be integrated with my Home Assistant system, so I can control my Rotel amplifier when the TV is on/off. This item (KP115 KASA SMART WI-FI PLUG) fits the bill since it has the energy monitoring feature. Make sure you still have the 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi otherwise it dose not work for 5 Ghz.
