Such a handy way to unlock the door!
Palm recognition is the way to go to unlock the door. I have not missed carrying a set of keys at all. I’m not fumbling for my key, or worse, dropping them with my hands full. Even typing in the code is much easier than a key. This has been great for setting up our multi-user house. We have been able to successfully set up our family of four, both of our parents, my sister, BIL, and her two kids. We are in and out of each other’s houses all the time, so no one needs to remember a key or worry about losing one. Our parents are getting older and my mother is always misplacing her keys, so this lock is an amazing solution. It was easy to install, but do read the instructions fully before doing the install, especially when starting the unit up for the first time. There are some initial boot directions to get the lock to calibrate properly and set up the administrator password and account. I like that I can configure it to auto lock after a certain time frame, so when someone forgets to lock the door, it does it for them. I can monitor who has come and gone and when on the app. This is weatherproof, but we installed it on a door with a textured surface, so we made sure to use silicone to seal the gasket on the exterior unit so water wouldn’t be driven into the small gaps created by the textured surface. Using a silicone bead to seal the exterior gasket on a smooth door is still a good idea. We live in the hurricane prone southeast and have bad tropical storms and severe thunderstorms that all drive rain in all kinds of directions with great force. So the silicone is a preventative measure. This lock is a great way to service our large family and make sure to secure our home. It is well made, easy to install and set up, easy to add users, and has worked perfectly for us, so we bought another one for my parent’s home. This way, my mother and father will always be able to get in even if they misplace their keys. Its auto-lock feature makes sure that their home is always secure.

Palm Recognition! Wow now that’s cool
Owning and managing hundreds of properties, I’ve installed a lot of smart locks over the years, and most of them follow the same formula. Keypad, maybe fingerprint, app control, and a mechanical key backup. Because of that, it’s pretty rare for a lock to actually feel TRULY **different** from everything else out there. The DESLOC K140 Plus is one of the few that genuinely stands out!!The biggest reason is the palm vein recognition system. I’ll admit I was skeptical at first, but after setting it up and using it a few times it’s actually impressive. Instead of relying on fingerprints that can sometimes struggle with wet or dirty hands, this system reads the vein pattern in your palm. In practice it’s quick, accurate, and surprisingly easy to use. It’s one of those features that feels a little futuristic but also very practical once you try it.The rest of the lock is well put together too. Installation is similar to other smart deadbolts, so if you’ve swapped out a deadbolt before you shouldn’t run into any issues. The keypad is clear and responsive, and the auto lock feature is a nice touch for making sure the door isn’t accidentally left unlocked. I also like that it still includes a mechanical key backup, which is important in a rental or property management situation. The app control worked well and made it easy to add users or manage access remotely. That’s something I rely on regularly when dealing with tenants, contractors, or short term access needs. At $149.99, this actually feels like a stronger value than a lot of other smart locks I’ve tested. Between the palm vein recognition, the solid build, and the full set of smart features, it feels like a more advanced system rather than just another keypad deadbolt.Overall, this is one of the more interesting and well thought out smart locks I’ve tried in a while. The palm recognition feature is the real standout and makes this system feel like a genuine upgrade over the typical fingerprint or keypad locks. I installed it today, it works great! For anyone looking for something a little more advanced, this one is definitely worth considering.

    Palm Recognition works well
Already had a smart lock, which was quite more advanced that had face recognition and fingerprint. The issue I had with that was the positioning you had to have with face recognition and fingerprint sometimes fails to read. I got this as palm recognition seems much easier, and so far it is. This smart lock was a breeze to install, and the instructions are easy to follow. Once installed, it easily connected with my phone via bluetooth and then connected with my wifi. Its battery life looks really good, and still sits at 100% after I installed weeks ago. I also appreciate that it has usb-c which you can use to temporarily power the lock in case the battery is dead. But, the best part of this lock is the palm recognition. Had issues at first registering my palms (some issues distance issues where my palm is), but once registered and I figured out the proper distance, its recognizing my palm quite fast and easily. It’s working functionally well. What I like: Palm recognition is really nice, especially once you know how to position. It’s quick and opens the lock quickly. Very easy to install and instructions are easy to follow. What I didn’t like: I think software can be a bit better and have more options. For one, why can’t I set it for induction lock with a timer. You can only have one or the other but not both (my old lock allowed both). If I set for timed auto-lock, the lock engages even when the door is wide open, and no where near the induction sensor. This causes accidental slams with the lock engaged, which can cause damage to the door frame/lock. Proximity induction is iffy. So far the best way I found was just to manually wake up the lock to get my palm recognized.Overall, still a good product, especially the palm recognition.

From my initial impression of the packaging to the install and use of this K140 Plus smart lock from DESLOC, everything is top notch and premium quality. The K140 arrived professionally packaged, extremely well presented and undamaged.Everything you need to get this lock operational is inside the box. The various parts are individually packaged and well labelled. A well written and comprehensive instruction book details how the lock is to be installed. I installed the K140 on my detached garage side entrance door which already had a keyed lock set installed. I encountered no issues and the install was straightforward and quick. I’m looking forward to having a fast and convenient way to open the garage door without having to remember a key everytime. The K140 is a sleek and elegant looking lock with its black and silver finish and palm reading sensor screen. This is a large lock, partially due to the large screen that reads your palm , slide down door that hides the key hole and the large long life rechargeable battery pack that is located in the interior side. The lock is strongly constructed to enhance security. A thick metal mounting plate on the interior side of the door is used to secure the solidly constructed outside keypad unit. The outside keypad is also well sealed to resist rain and snow.Downloading the DESLOC app was simple and connected with the K140 on the first attempt. The app has ultimate control over the lock with many customizable features and functions which make this lock even more useful and convenient. Setting the lock up to recognize my palm print was easy and it has not yet failed to open the first time when using this method. This is an excellent function and not having to carry a key to access the garage is really convenient. I also like the fact that it has a high capacity rechargeable battery to power the lock for many months under normal use and that there are other ways to open the lock if needed.Overall, I have nothing negative to say about this K140 Plus smart lock from DESLOC. DESLOC has gone above and beyond to make an attractive high security lock with all the details covered to make it an excellent user experience from install to use. Definitely a 5 STAR product.

This is a really feature-rich lock with all sorts of thoughtful additions and overall just works really well with the hand recognition.First off, the setup is really straightforward and the instruction manual really holds your hand as they walk you through it. I like that. It also includes a drilling template for the door and everything else you need to set up the lock. It’s no issue regardless of whether the door is a right hand or a left hand door, and the locking software includes the necessary calibration process to be able to set up the lock accordingly. The lock seamlessly connects to Wi-Fi and you can first do the initial setup through a Bluetooth connection via your phone. I will note that you do need to create an account, which I don’t always love, but I think in this case it warrants it given the nature of a lock and the constant remote access you might want. The app is really intuitive and really easy to use. You’re able to set up multiple users of multiple different natures, including users that can access the lock at any time, users that can only access the lock at specific times, as well as one-time users.Setting up the palm vein identification is really easy, it’s so much faster than a fingerprint setup where you have to get multiple angles of your fingerprint on the sensor, literally one wave of your hand in front of the sensor when it’s in configuration mode and your hand is programmed in. You can also set it up to configure for your left and right hand. You can set up multiple users as well. My one little nitpick about this is that each user has to have their own pin. If you want them to also have their own hand in the system. It’s not too big of a deal as I pretty much set up my main pin for my entire family to use, and every other user just gets a series of random numbers as their pin and then I can put their hand into the lock. The lock also has some really cool features including care mode, where you set it up to expect a certain user to unlock it at a certain time, such as a child getting home from school, and if they do not use the lock during that time, you can receive a notification, this is a really nice safety feature and really thoughtful feature to include. You can also set it on vacation mode for extra security. And it also has a emergency power cable that you can access from the outside if the lock were to run out of power, that way you can connect it via USB-C to a power bank or directly to your phone to give it a bit of juice to open up so you can get inside the house and recharge it. I’ll also note that it has a nice big lithium power bank, a nice improvement over the standard four AA battery setup, and it seems to have a much longer battery life than those typical setups. If you have a plug near the front door, you could run a long USB cable over to it just to charge it up as well, so you don’t even have to have the lock powered down ever. You could also consider getting a second battery and just swap them out whenever you need to charge. The keys are also convenient as they use a standard Schlage keyway so it’s easy enough to get additional ones cut. It’s easy enough to hide a few around the house and give a couple to neighbors, friends, or family as well that way.I’d also note that the lock is very sleek looking, the all black matte looking exterior with the small sensor on it is just sharp looking. It has a nice rounded look to it, a little unique. One other really nice feature I should note is the proximity sensor on it, so the lock comes to life as you walk up to it so you don’t have to press anything, you can just wave your hand in front of it and it will unlock the door.Overall, I’m really happy with this lock, it’s full of features and they all work really well. The inclusion of the lithium battery gives it a nice long life and saves you having a constantly cycle through AA batteries.

I’ll start by saying I’ve used several smart locks from this brand before, and every one of them has performed extremely well. If you’re looking at this model but hesitating because of the price, it’s worth taking a look at the manufacturer’s other locks as well. They have consistently been some of the most reliable smart locks I’ve used over the years. After trying many brands, this company has proven to deliver the highest quality locks I’ve come across, especially when it comes to reliability in harsh climates. One of the biggest reasons I continue using this brand is how well their locks handle Canadian winters. Many smart locks struggle when temperatures drop significantly, but these have continued to function properly even in extremely cold weather. According to the specifications, this model is rated to operate down to around -30°C, which is a huge advantage if you live somewhere with real winter conditions. Some other smart locks I’ve tested became unreliable or completely stopped working in those temperatures, but this brand has consistently performed well.Setup is extremely straightforward. The lock connects directly to Wi-Fi, so there’s no separate hub or gateway required like many competing brands demand. Once installed, you simply download the app, connect the lock to your network, and create your first passcode. The whole setup process takes only a few minutes. After that, the lock is ready to use and you can manage everything through the app. The app itself is simple and responsive, making it easy to create profiles, manage codes, and view lock activity. The built-in Wi-Fi also means you can control the lock from anywhere rather than needing to stand right next to it with Bluetooth. You can check lock status, receive notifications, and manage access remotely. One feature I really appreciate is the ability to create separate profiles for different people in your household. When someone unlocks the door using their assigned method, the app can send a notification showing exactly who entered. This lock also integrates easily with smart home systems like Alexa and Google Home. Connecting it to Alexa is simple through the app’s “Works With” settings. Once connected, you can lock or unlock the door using voice commands. For security, Alexa requires a voice unlock code when unlocking the door, which is a nice safety feature. Locking the door does not require the code.Installation is just as easy as installing a regular deadbolt. Everything lines up well and fits flush without the alignment issues that sometimes happen with smart locks. I’ve installed several smart locks over the years, and this one was noticeably easier to mount and adjust compared to many others. The most impressive feature of this lock is the palm vein recognition technology. This is one of the highest levels of biometric security available today and is typically found only in banks, secure facilities, and government environments. Instead of relying on fingerprints, the system scans the unique vein pattern in your palm. You simply hover your hand over the sensor and the door unlocks in about a second. It works extremely reliably and avoids many of the problems fingerprint scanners can have when hands are wet, dirty, or slightly misaligned. There are also several other ways to unlock the door including the keypad, mobile app, palm recognition, or a traditional key backup. The keypad requires a 6-8 digit code which adds an extra layer of security. The only small drawback I noticed is that the lock does not allow a 4 digit code directly on the keypad, although Alexa unlock commands do use a 4 digit voice code.Another feature I really appreciate is the customizable auto-lock timer. Through the app you can choose exactly how long the door waits before locking again after being opened. It can be set anywhere from just a few seconds to a couple of minutes. This is especially useful when carrying groceries inside or moving things in and out of the house so the door doesn’t lock on you too quickly.Battery management is also well thought out. The lock provides low battery alerts through voice prompts and app notifications so you know well in advance when it needs charging. It uses a rechargeable battery, and even if the battery somehow runs completely empty you won’t be locked out. There is an emergency charging option that allows you to power the lock temporarily so you can unlock the door.Overall, this is easily one of the most advanced and reliable smart locks I’ve used. Between the palm vein recognition, built-in Wi-Fi, strong cold weather performance, smart home compatibility, and multiple unlocking methods, it provides both convenience and extremely high security. If you’re looking for a premium smart lock that is built to last and packed with advanced technology, this is an excellent choice.

Installation of this smart lock from DESLOC was very simple. It did not take very long to install. It comes with the necessary accessories except for a screwdriver. This lock is powered by the included 10000mAh lithium rechargeable battery which is charged via USB-C (note that no charging cable is included).Key Features of this smart lock are:- palm vein recognition (left and right hand)- keypad unlock/lock- keyed unlock/lock- when out of battery, at the bottom is a USB-C cable to provide power to unlock via the keypad.- induction lock so with the included plate, once it detects the door as closed, it will automatically lock.- timed lock up to 120 seconds- unlock/lock via the app- works with Google Home and Alexa (Alexa has a little more functionality such as voice recognition). There are some other features which can be accessed via the app such as Vacation and Rest mode, Anti-Peeping, Anti-Hijacking, Failed Attempt, Door Ajar Alert.During my usage, it works well when I unlock by all the methods. The only one I found that same very minor issue is when the lock wakes up/detects motion so that it recognizes my palm. If I close the door and it locks right away, it would not recognize my palm if I try to unlock soon after.Although it’s a great lock, there are some downsides:- The App not work fully with Android devices. When using my S25 Ultra, I was unable to register palms. The “Start” button to register would not be highlighted so that I can click on it. It works fine with iPhone.- There is one part behind the battery where there is a spot to screw in to hold the plate close to the door. I do not like this as I do not want to put a hole in my door.- The automatic induction lock does not have a timed feature. It locks with a second of it closing. There should be a timed feature for this method of locking.Overall, this is still a great product and has replaced my previous smart lock.REVISED REVIEW:There was an Android app update around March 20, 2026 which fixed the palm recognition setup. Now I can click the button “Start” button and do the recognition process. Now this is a great lock.
