Get it
I bought my home 17 years ago so my thermostat was dated. I make subtle upgrades to my home and this was one of them. I like that it has wifi and connects to Google home. It was easy to install and seems to be a good quality. I no longer have to get up or yell to ask one of my children to adjust the temp in the house I can schedule the settings from my phone. I am pleasantly pleased with this purchase.

DO NOT BUY: A Massive Downgrade From the Original Nest Thermostat
I purchased five Google Nest Thermostats (Snow, Renewed) units for about $68 each, and I quickly realized why they were so inexpensive. As someone who has worked with and trained people in technology for decades, I was shocked at how far Google has allowed this product line to fall.1. Smaller Size = Forced Extra CostsThese mirror-faced thermostats are smaller in diameter than the original Nest models. That means:* You must buy an aftermarket trim ring (~$15), or* Repair and repaint your wall. This is a basic design failure. Who approves a redesign that breaks compatibility with existing installations — especially when Google has already announced that Gen 2 Nest thermostats lose support on 2025-10-25? Dumb a$$es do this.2. Forced Energy-Saving Features You Can’t Truly DisableThese cheaper units aggressively enforce Google’s “save energy” behaviors:If the thermostat detects that no one is home, it adjusts the temperature on its own.Turning off “Eco When Away” in the Google Home app doesn’t stick. You have to disable it daily.I want comfort, not a thermostat second-guessing me. This feature alone is enough to reject the product.3. Extremely Poor Build QualityThese “Gen 3” budget thermostats feel nothing like the original Nest products:* Flimsy construction* Difficult to seat properly into the base* Pin contacts fail repeatedly* Constant low-battery errors until the unit is seated “just right”* A physical interface so unintuitive it could “make the Pope swear”Google took a premium, intuitive device and replaced it with something that feels—and operates—like a bargain-bin imitation.4. Likely Short LifespanThese units are already labeled Gen 3, which almost guarantees they’ll be obsolete in a few years, given Google’s track record of short support cycles.Bottom Line these thermostats are:* Poorly designed* Cheaply built* Frustrating to use* Packed with forced settings you can’t permanently disable* And destined for early obsolescenceI returned all five and ordered the 4th-Generation Nest Thermostat, which is much closer to the quality Nest originally stood for.Medicine has a Black Label; this Google redesign of the Mest Thermostat should be Black Labeled as well!Do not buy this product. It’s a dramatic step backward.

Follow instructions explicitly
Upon reading and viewing the installation information and then following them meticulously, the thermostat was up and running. A couple of wires had to be re-stripped and then repeated on the base plate. After these additional tweaks, the programing was easy to follow and worked as expected.

Highly recommend it!
Thanks to my son I can control my AC/Heating from my Google Home app. I don’t have to climb stairs to do it anymore 🥰 Don’t be afraid to get the renewed ones.

Very easy to install and integrate, even without instructions
I purchased this Nest device to replace my existing programmable thermostat. This was an Amazon renewed item and as such I knew that it may not have all the OEM items. It arrived without printed instructions, but if you have installed one thermostat you have basically installed them all. I also got the back plate for it. Took about 10 minutes to install and have the thermostat integrated onto my WiFi. Just for giggles I went online and took a look at the instructions. They are by far the best and most complete set of directions I have seen in a long time. Thats why the 5 stars on Tech Support. Not a real fan of the mirrored finish, buy cheap and you don’t get to pick. Works very well on the Home App, not so much on the touch controls. I spent a lot of time looking at various brands and models, happy I landed on this one.

Came in original packaging and appears brand new. However it looses one star because it had not been reset to factory defaults which resulted in hours long installation process over two days. The factory reset process was not that intuitive to me even though I have an electrical engineering degree. I was probably mislead by a couple of UTube videos based on an earlier software version on how to reset to factory defaults, but once I performed a factory reset all installation issues disappeared and the installation/configuration completed in minutes. It was giving me an error message that I had no red wire, even though I did, and it was setting the heat temperature even though it is controlling an AC only ducted system. Long story short, as soon as I figured out how to reset the thermostat back to factory defaults, the error message regarding the missing red wire went away, it recognized that the set temperature was for cooling and l was able to finally complete the configuration and I have a brand new looking pretty neat thermostat.
