Good simple smart thermostat
This is a good, simple smart thermostat. In the three months since Iāve installed it, it and its app have been 100% reliable for heating and cooling my home (itās basically a consumer version of the pro model Honeywell S200 thermostat).Connecting the it to my HVAC was easy (I already had a common wire), and so was using the First Alert by Resideo app to set it up on WiFi, add a schedule, etc. I was pleasantly surprised that the entire setup process – both wiring it up and configuring it in the app – went off without a hitch. After setup, the app let me sign up for rebates with my gas and electric utilities – but after I did the gas signup, the electric option disappeared, even though my HVAC system uses both (I was able to sign up for electric later after I added another personās account to my location).Considering the price, the lack of remote temperature sensors or presence sensors isnāt a big deal (and those features are mostly overkill anyway). The thermostat itself feels sturdy, but looks basic – though once again thatās fine considering the price. You can switch the bottom plastic āchinā between white or gray, both are in the box.Using the physical thermostat screen and controls to adjust temp, switch modes and so on, is simple and straightforward. The buttons feel rubbery but are reliable, and the monochrome screen is sharp and clear – but most of the text is very small, which could be hard to read with older eyes. The First Alert app can follow your phoneās location and automatically change temperatures for home vs. away; or you can use a fixed schedule (which is what I did). The app requires horizontal scrolling to see the entire schedule which is confusing, and then it often got stuck when updating the schedule (but thatās something you wonāt do very often). The app also only works in portrait mode on iPad unless you update to the most recent iPadOS. Otherwise the app seemed reliable and stable.Out of the box, the thermostat offers only modes for Heat and Cool; but you can go into advanced settings to enable Auto mode to automatically switch between heating and cooling. Advanced settings also lets you change backlight timing and brightness, whether you have one- or two-stage heating or cooling, etc.The thermostat can work with the main smart home platforms – Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. However, while Alexa and Google setup are easily accessed from the appās main menu under Integrations, Apple HomeKit requires the “Matter” menu which is buried several levels down under the thermostat’s settings – in fact thereās no mention of āHomeKitā at all. While technically this makes sense (because HomeKit supports Matter devices and Matter isn’t exclusive to HomeKit) itās not going to be obvious to many users. There was an extra page of instructions in the box explaining this relationship between HomeKit and Matter, but it didnāt say anything about how to access Matter in the app (to address this they should put HomeKit and Matter items in the same menu with Alexa and Google, even if it’s not “logical”).I use Apple HomeKit so I canāt comment on the Alexa or Google Home experience, but once the thermostat was added to the Apple Home app (which was easy to do except it was displayed as S200 instead of X2S), the Home app only offered very basic controls: just temperature, heat/cool/off, and a preset automation to turn off when you leave home – and thatās it. I think this is a limitation of HomeKit – not Honeywell – since my Nest thermostat in a different home is exactly the same. This means youāll still need the First Alert app to set fan mode, or use schedules and geofencing (although the latter could also be done by adding your own HomeKit automations).P. S. I also have the latest Google Nest learning thermostat in another home. Itās much sexier looking, but itās harder to use, both directly and via the Google Home app, though it was a bit easier to install. Nest has fancier features like learning, presence sensing, and a remote temp sensor – but so far i haven’t found anything that made it worth the much higher price tag.

Excellent Basic Smart WiFi Thermsoatat
Good manual with easy-to-follow installation instructions. The app then guides you through the final steps to set it up. Best install/setup experience of any thermostat I’ve had.The actual unit is better looking than the images, in my opinion. The display is not color, but it is clear, easy to read, and looks good when lit.Simple to control using either the thermostat or the app.Good value compared to most smart thermostats + Honeywell quality.Recommended.

Simple and functional.
If you’re looking for a state of the art system, this isn’t ecobee. If you need something that is fully matter compatible but has zero learning curve for those who are used to a very low tech Honeywell thermostat, this is it. The later is important if you need smart control but have to work with an elderly parent. Temperature control or automation works either by smartphone or large physical controls. There’s no big touch screen, but it uses the same universal connector as the x8s so upgrading to a more advanced Honeywell unit in the future is easy. Great affordable starter smart thermostat.

Easy installation but challenging set up process
Bought this to use in a second home in the mountains. Installation was easy but when I tried to set it up via the App, it kept saying that it could not detect the fan wire, i.e. green wire. The old thermostat worked fine so I knew the wiring was good, but I went ahead and snipped off about an inch of wire and re-terminated them. Got the same message and tech support was not helpful, said send it back. I then used the setup function on the thermostat itself, and I set everything up according to my unit’s specs. I have a heat pump with single cool and dual heat; one is for AC electric strip heaters for aux/emergency heat. After that setup was complete, it was a little tricky but everything seems to be working well, and I am able to control and monitor from the app. I haven’t tried the cooling system yet as it’s too cold still but will update after I get a chance to try it. Minus 1 star for “tech” support!

Ordered new, but it was not new.
Ordered a new thermostat but clearly received one that was not new. The box had been opened and the inside bag was open was missing the screws and anchors. Unit works ok, the set up was fairly easy, tried to set up using the app, but found it easier to set up on the thermostat display. Thermostat seems to work ok, is a pretty simple WiFi enabled thermostat.

Great WiFi Choice
Purchased four of these to replace non WiFi thermostats in a church building to control 8 HVAC units and they work great. They are accurate and make it so easy to program and control the units remotely or while in the building. The app is easy to use and can be shared with multiple users. Easy to follow installation instructions and programming. I recommend these for both our type of application and for residential use as well.

not ready for prime time
dont waste your money. on the surface a smart thermostat for the price was the draw. unfortunately, its a toy. they dont keep accurate run time statistics, they are not compatible with any honeywell remote sensors and now the latest, because the sun shines in from a window 20 feet away from where the downstairs one is mounted, the so-called radiant heat sensor shows the temperature in the room at 5 degrees warmer than the actual ambient temperature in the room making the rest of the house always cold. the solution from resideo, buy a more expensive unit which are then not compatible with the other units i have on the top and basement floors.

Product works as expected but unfortunately not able to use the wifi functionality which is the main reason of getting this product. Not able to download this app in UAE since it seems the product is locked to US region and the app is not available to download in UAE

I installed it a few days ago at our other property. I works exactly as billed. The WIFI connection was finicky to set up. The QR App download from the user guide didn’t work but I found the correct app when checking Google for a help video. Once the correct App was installed, installation was quick and easy. I installed the correct App on my wife’s phone and it was complete and working in 5 minutes.
