It’s new so far…
This review has to be both for the bulbs and the software. They play together.(I also have a few TP-Link whites, and a color.)Only had these 3 bulbs a week or two now, and only 1 of the 3 is connected so far.(I gave the other 3 away to a friend, for his studio space.)The bulb is good. This RGBW bulb is brighter than my original TP-Link TL-120 color bulb, which I think was just an RGB. (And which has since has been upgraded to a newer model I haven’t purchased one of. Also RGBW now, I believe. Twice as much $$ as these, though.)The app took me a while to figure out, poking at it… maybe I’m getting old…Selecting a bulb gives you a control screen. When the light is off, the function choices at bottom of that screen are printed in a dull font, indicating inactive. Turning on the bulb shows you the currently-active function. On the “Dim” selection, you can control lights individually and change bulb settings. On a color bulb, choose between a white setting and a color setting. The basic, as-direct-as-it-gets unit control. The “Scenes” selection gives you a bunch of pre-formatted presets (14), which you can change. The first group of 6 seems to do White-based settings, and the other two groups of 6 and 8 do color-based settings. Not sure if you can change the mode on these presets. (White vs color.) You can change the scene names, but I haven’t yet figured out if you can change the picture that is associated with the scene, nor if you can add or delete scenes. (Probably wont be using the blue-to-white Hanukkah theme too often. And while I can change the settings and name, what about the picture on this ‘button’?)On each Scene ‘preset’, you can have a static color/warmth, or you can cycle (fade) through 2 or more color/warmth settings (within the same mode: color or white). E.g. I modified my ‘Party’ scene to cycle through 8 colors, from 3.The one connected bulb seems to sporadically lose contact with the Wifi, which is currently about a whole 6 or so feet away. Latest example: Last night I gave someone 3 of these bulbs, and I was showing him the app. From two towns away, I pressed the Party scene – which worked, and it was on when I got home. As expected. But then at home I could switch it off. Connection lost. The signal dropping also seemed to occur a few times while customizing scene settings. The fix? Have to go to that light’s settings, and select “Check Device Network”. I often get a ‘failed’ or a ‘poor’ signal reported from doing this. I just hit it again. After the second or third time, it’s suddenly happy again… Go figure… Perhaps also not good is that I am so familiar with it working this way, only a week into ownership. (maybe code it so that the network check just does the process 3 times, by itself? Save me that extra work?)Played well with Alexa the two times I’ve verbally commanded it, so far.FYI, I’ve wanted another color bulb, and I bought these based on a non-Amazon review. This after previously buying a different one here, which was disappointing and returned. This bulb was rated best economy (smart, color) bulb in that review. If these do settle down after I stop tweaking settings and just use them – if they stop dropping connection – then I would say I’d probably buy them again.

Great lightbulbs. Not great app.
I will be honest and say I am generally quite impressed with these for the price. They’re probably the cheapest smart bulbs by a reputable big vendor. That said, I am not impressed by the app compatibility.I originally bought these because I wanted to do special multi-color scenes such as for parties, music, etc. While you can control Scenes for individual bulbs in the Tuyasmart/Cree app (the Cree is just a skinned Tuyasmart/Smart Life app), but if you have them hooked into a group, the Scenes setting is different. You no longer can do multiple colors and have them transition slowly/smoothly to another color. They go automatically from one color to another. And the Scenes for a group of lights is a lot less flexible/customizable than the single bulb Scenes. So I knocked down a star for this alone.I don’t think this is a tough software problem to solve, but they have to recognize the problem and issue the fix itself.I will bring these up to 5/5 stars if they can fix it.
